January 2013

Hello Roach Riders,

The groomer is fixed and we are back on a regular grooming schedule.  After a leaking main pump and a blown track, Fred says the only thing that has not had to be fixed this year is the cab!  So, weather permitting we will be out there. Thanks Fred, Bob, Jeff, John and Andy for all of your work to get the groomer back up and running.

There have been some updates to our trail system.  There is some logging on the NFG trail so we will be re-routing to avoid this.   Check out the webpage http://www.kokadjoroachriders.org/TrailReports.html  for current trail conditions.  Or, you can “like” us on Facebook  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kokadjo-Roach-Riders/190385171039529?ref=ts&fref=ts and you will be able to find links to updated information there as well.

We are also going to be updating the Business Member section of our website.  If you are a business member and would like your company information displayed on our website, please email your information to heidimansir@kokadjoroachriders.org as soon as possible.

If you have not renewed your membership, it’s time.  If you need a copy of the membership form you can print a copy of the membership application from the website.
Happy riding!!!!!!

October 2012
Hello Roach Riders,
The weather is starting to get cool and the snow flurries have begun, the last storm left a light covering of white.  Hopefully these early storms are just the beginning of a great season!
Usually, October is a quiet month for club news, but this year we have four important pieces of information to share.
First, we are excited to congratulate Marie Candeloro, who has recently been appointed by the Commissioner to the Snowmobile Advisory Committee.  Marie has accepted her appointment and she will begin working immediately.  Thank you, Marie, for working so hard and volunteering your time to improve our trail system.
Second, we want all members to know that we have received notice that the State has completed their investigation into the conflict that took place last March.  We were informed that individual involved was reprimanded for his actions but that the details of the reprimand would be kept private because it was an employment action.  There are still a few unanswered questions but, we would really like to thank all of those club members who took the time to write letters and make calls, your involvement made a difference.
The third issue that we are facing is a cut to our funding.  We were notified recently that the overall budget for grooming has been cut 10% and there will be some very big changes to how these funds are distributed.  Traditionally, we have received the funding through an annual contract.  The proposed changes distribute funds based on an individual hour of service.  The jury is still out on how this funding change will affect the club.  We hope to learn more at a meeting on 10/16/12.  All Groomers from the Unorganized Northern Piscataquis County region will be attending to learn more about this funding change.  We will have an update on this issue at the annual meeting in November.
Finally, if you have not renewed your membership, it’s time.   If you need a copy of the membership form you can print a copy of the membership application from the website.

September 2012
It is almost that time of year!!! I have heard they are forecasting a great year for snow, so, it is time to get those trails ready for a great riding season.
Mark your calendars now, the fall club meeting/trail work weekend is scheduled for November 9-11. This is a three day holiday weekend so we should have lots of time to get our trail system in order.   Come up and help maintain the wonderful trails you ride! Folks who attend and help us get the trails ready stay courtesy of Fred and Marie. The Prez is hard at work gathering signage and backers. Please bring the usual tools, plywood, screw guns, screws, drills, staple guns, hammers, nails, permanent markers and any sign mounting materials you can scrounge up. We will have the meeting/election of officers the evening of the 10th immediately after the annual feast. All those who attend are asked, make that required, to bring a Pot Luck dish to share. Please RSVP Marie @ (207) 695-3993.  And, please bring bedding if you’ll be staying. These meetings are always a good time, and a wonderful event to attend if you could use a bit of verbal abuse. Hope to see you there!

February 2012

Hello Roach Riders,

People are riding!  It has been very cold this week, good grooming weather! This cold weather is helping to hold a solid base on the trails. We are on a regular grooming schedule and both of the groomers are back up and running now.  The trails are in good shape! There is some fine riding to be had!!   Hope to see you soon.

Happy Trails!

January 2012

Hello Roach Riders,
Finally, people are riding!  Fred and crew are not grooming yet but the trails are passable.  We have had riders come in from the Jackman area and from the Schoodic Lake area.  We have an icy base with three to four inches of cover.  However, please be extremely cautious crossing any body of water, the temperature has varied from day to day here and the ice is not reliably safe.   Look forward to seeing you soon.  Happy Trails!

December 2011

Hello Roach Riders,
Happy Holidays to all!  Fred and crew have been busy working on the trail system. The new NFG trail is cut in, mulched, and ready to go, should be a nice smooth ride this year.   Now we are just waiting (impatiently) for snow.  I think it may be time to do a snow dance.   Hope to be riding soon.  Please check out the website for the updated membership application if you have not paid your dues yet this season.

November 2011

Hello Roach Riders,

The annual club meeting/trail work weekend was held on Oct. 22-23. Many showed up to participate in the meeting and help maintain the wonderful trails that we all ride!  Hard working club members signed trails, cut brush, and marked trails to prepare for the upcoming season.  Members who attend and helped get the trails ready were able to stay at the Kokadjo Cabins & Trading Post courtesy of Fred and Marie (thank you).   If you do any work on the trails, please make sure that Marie has record of your time.

Saturday night was the annual potluck feast and election of officers.  Once again the cooks went all out; chicken pot pie, soup, chili, corn bread, pasta, beans, pulled pork, etc., etc., YUM.   The results of the election were:  Richie Alexander, President, Andy Diskes, Vice President, John Diskes, Treasurer, Heidi Mansir, Secretary (still not sure how that happened), and Jeff Gagnon, Clerk.

The final item on the meeting agenda was a discussion of membership dues.  Members voted to modify the dues structure to only have two levels; family membership at $30 per year and Business Membership at $100 per year.

A great time was had by all!!

If you have not renewed your membership, it’s time.  (Fred says I can be a little more assertive herebut I figured I would save the strong language for next month  :)    ) If you need a copy of the membership form you can print a copy of the membership application from the website.
